Eco-Logical

Developing a Regional Ecosystem Framework for Terrestrial and Aquatic Resources along the I-70 Corridor, Colorado An Eco-Logical Field Test

State: Colorado

Applicant: Colorado Department of Transportation

Grant Amount: $152,500

Period of Performance: 36 months

Summary: This project will act as a field test of the principles of the Eco-logical approach by applying a Regional Ecosystem Framework (REF) to the I-70 Corridor in Colorado from Denver to Glenwood Springs traversing portions of the Clear Creek, Blue River, and Gore Creek watersheds. The REF incorporates an ecosystem based approach to development of transportation infrastructure through protection and restoration of aquatic and terrestrial wildlife connectivity. The REF also strives to improve predictability in the environmental review process and provides an enhanced forum for public involvement over the current planning process.

Project Status: The Colorado Department of Transportation has signed the contract with FHWA and the official kick-off meeting was held in June of 2008.
