State: Virginia
Applicant: Thomas Jefferson Planning District
Grant Amount: $77,833
Period of Performance: 36 months
Summary: This project will integrate environmental and transportation planning efforts to create a plan to maximize the sustainability of the region. The grant will support the development of an integrated regional plan with a priority list of mitigation projects and a detailed analysis of at least two specific road and/or development projects and how their environmental impact may be minimized, to serve as a model for the region and beyond. The project will: Include a public education campaign and public workshops to alert public to the new planning effort and solicit input; Fund staffing to undertake a land-use modeling effort to predict vulnerable-to-development areas; and develop green infrastructure maps and habitat corridor models and use them to evaluate scenarios developed by land use models for the region which includes the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson Counties.
Project Status: The Thomas Jefferson Planning District signed its contract with FHWA and held its official kick off call.
As of November 2008, the Thomas Jefferson Planning District achieved the following highlights:
- Two technical committee meetings were held to discuss: tying green infrastructure into the regions' comprehensive plans, feedback from a transportation workshop and survey, and trails and other recreational facilities as a component of green infrastructure.
- TJPDC began to work with Greene County staff and consultants on the Greene County Multimodal Corridor Plan, integrating green infrastructure into the corridor plan and the County's Comprehensive Plan
